A Genymotion alternative for iOS and Android security testing
You might need a Genymotion alternative when your security work covers iOS as well as Android. Genymotion virtualizes Android only [1]. recuritylab gives security teams virtual iOS and Android devices on one platform, with jailbreak, root and AI agents built in.

The right Genymotion alternative depends on the job it does for you today. Start there:
- Android development on a workstation. The Android Studio Emulator is the usual alternative, or keep Genymotion Desktop. See /compare/android-emulator.
- Release QA across real handsets. A device cloud gives you physical models rather than virtual ones. See /compare/browserstack.
- Running Android apps on a desktop for everyday use. Consumer emulators cover this. They are not built for testing and are out of scope here.
- Security research and app testing on iOS and Android. You need virtual devices with jailbreak and root on both platforms. Corellium and recuritylab are built for this.

Genymotion vs recuritylab
Genymotion cells summarize its public site and documentation, with a source number for each. Where our answer depends on your requirements, the cell says "Ask us".
| Criterion | Genymotion | recuritylab |
|---|---|---|
| iOS | No; Android only [1] | Yes, virtual iOS devices |
| Android versions | Android 5.0 to 16.0 (API 21–36) [3] | Ask us |
| Root | Depends on version: older images rooted by default; newer images unrooted with a root toggle [3] | Root built in |
| iOS jailbreak | Not applicable [1] | Jailbreak built in |
| arm64 devices | Yes, "without any ARM translation tools" [2] | Ask us |
| CLI / API | gmsaas CLI and HTTP API [2] | API and MCP server; overview at /api |
| AI agents / MCP | Marketed as "optimized for … agentic AI"; no first-party MCP server found [1] | AI agents and MCP server built in |
| Security tooling (kernel, traffic, snapshots) | Lists "Security & Pentesting" as a use case; specifics not documented [1] | System and kernel introspection, traffic monitoring, snapshots |
| Deployment | SaaS, PaaS on AWS, GCP, Azure and Alibaba Cloud, Desktop, Self-Hosted [1] | Cloud; discuss other deployment needs |
| Access | Self-serve and sales-led options [1] | On request, through "Book a demo" |
The iOS gap: Genymotion and iOS
Many mobile apps ship on both platforms. If your team tests the same app on Android and iOS, Genymotion covers the Android side [1]. The iOS half needs a second tool, a second workflow and often a second set of habits.
Apple's own option doesn't close the gap for security work. Apple's iOS Simulator runs apps compiled for the Mac, so apps compiled for a real device can't run in it [4], and there is no device to jailbreak. See /compare/ios-simulator for the details. That usually leaves a drawer of jailbroken iPhones, with all the version and maintenance problems that come with them.
recuritylab puts virtual iOS devices with jailbreak access next to virtual Android devices with root, on one platform. Snapshots, traffic monitoring, system inspection and AI agents are available on both.
AI agents and MCP on both platforms
Genymotion markets its cloud as "optimized for team work, CI/CD and agentic AI" [1]. It offers a CLI and an HTTP API that teams and their tooling can build on [2]. We did not find a first-party MCP server on its site as of our last check.
On recuritylab, AI agents and an MCP server are built in, and they work the same way on iOS and Android. One agent workflow covers both platforms. An agent connects through MCP or the API, runs the scenario you describe on a jailbroken or rooted virtual device, observes traffic and storage, and collects evidence. It then drafts a report for human review. The same scenario can run against the Android build and the iOS build of the same app.
You stay in control. Pause the agent, roll back to a snapshot, or take over the device whenever you want.
When Genymotion is the better choice
Genymotion is a capable product, and for some teams it is the better fit:
- Your work is Android-only, and iOS is not on the roadmap.
- You want a local desktop emulator running on your own PC or Mac [1].
- You deploy from cloud marketplaces into your own AWS, GCP, Azure or Alibaba Cloud account [1].
- You want a self-serve start without a sales conversation.
- You need a broad, documented range of Android versions, from 5.0 to 16.0 [3].
Other Genymotion alternatives
Grouped by category, so you can skip the ones that don't fit your job:
- Android Studio Emulator (local, ships with Android Studio). Google's emulator, with root on AOSP images. See /compare/android-emulator.
- Waydroid and Android-x86 (open source, local). Run Android on your own Linux or PC hardware, a do-it-yourself route.
- Device clouds: BrowserStack, Firebase Test Lab, AWS Device Farm. Real devices for functional QA, without rooted or jailbroken access in BrowserStack's case. See /compare/browserstack.
- Corellium (iOS and Android virtualization for security). The established platform in our category. See /compare/corellium.
- Consumer emulators: BlueStacks, Nox, MEmu. Aimed mainly at running apps and games on a desktop rather than at testing.
For every option side by side, see /compare.
FAQ
Does Genymotion support iOS?
No. Genymotion's products (SaaS, PaaS, Desktop and Self-Hosted) virtualize Android devices [1]. For iOS you need a separate tool. For security testing on iOS, that means a jailbroken iPhone or a virtual iOS device such as recuritylab's.
Is Genymotion rooted?
It depends on the Android version and product. Genymotion's documentation lists older Android images as rooted by default. Newer images start unrooted, with a toggle to turn root on and off [3]. The cut-off version differs between Desktop, SaaS and PaaS.
What is the best Genymotion alternative for security testing?
If you test Android only, Genymotion's root toggle and "Security & Pentesting" positioning may be enough. If you need iOS too, with jailbreak, system-level inspection and AI agents, recuritylab is built for that. Corellium is the other established option for iOS and Android.
Is there a Genymotion alternative with iOS and Android?
Yes. recuritylab provides virtual iOS devices with jailbreak and virtual Android devices with root on one platform, with AI agents and MCP built in. Ask us in the demo about the versions you need.
Can AI agents drive Genymotion or recuritylab devices?
Genymotion markets its cloud for agentic AI and offers a CLI and an HTTP API that tooling can use [1][2]. recuritylab has AI agents and an MCP server built in. They drive jailbroken or rooted virtual devices and draft findings for human review.
How do I get access to recuritylab as a Genymotion alternative?
Book a demo. There is no self-serve sign-up. We review each request, walk through your use case and set up access for your team.
